Father’s Day is this Sunday, and that means quality time bonding with your pop! Whether you’re planning on taking him out for a steak dinner, working on a project together or seeing the latest blockbuster, all that matters is that you spend time together.
Surely you’ve picked up a Hallmark greeting card at this point and have selected the most thoughtful of gifts, but if you’re looking for a fun activity or a unique dining experience to treat your dad to this weekend, look no further. Here are a few suggestions on how to spend the day with your dad in southeast Michigan!
The Rugby Grille, 100 Townsend St., Birmingham, is located inside the Townsend Hotel, where the weekend brunch menu will be served until 3 p.m. Bring your dad to enjoy Griddled Pancakes (topped with cinnamon butter and Michigan maple syrup), Steak Benedict (with brown butter béarnaise and an English muffin) or a Monte Cristo (breakfast style, with homemade bacon, shaved ham, gruyere cheese and sunny egg).
Since it’s his special day, you should of course treat your dad to a Rugby Bloody Mary or Rugby Mimosa, whichever his preference is. All brunch items are priced a la carte.
The Holly Hotel, 110 Battle Alley, Holly, is hosting a Wild Game Brunch on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If your dad is a hunter and/or enjoys the likes of venison, elk and wild boar, bring him to brunch! The selection will also include prime rib, omelets and more. As for dessert, you’ll be able to make your way through a variety of pies and tortes.
The brunch costs $29 for adults, $12 for children ages 8 to 12 and $24 for club members. For reservations, call the Holly Hotel at 248-634-5208.
Arbor Brewing Company, 114 E. Washington St., Ann Arbor, is a great place to go with your dad any day of the week, so why not Father’s Day, too? Brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 pm. and includes several bar specials, including a Bloody Maria, Dirty Sriracha (Stoli, olive juice, Sriracha, pickled green tomato and cilantro), Bacon Bloody (Tito’s, horseradish, bacon strip and pickled okra) and half off bartender’s choice samplers.
Brunch specials include Buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy, Corned Beef Hash with Poached Eggs, Chorizo Omelet (with peppers, onions and Cheddar cheese, served with potatoes and salsa roja) and Hipster Hash (veggies and potatoes topped with two fried eggs and Cheddar cheese).
Mettetal Airport, 8550 Lilley Rd., Canton, is where you’ll find the Annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast, courtesy of EAA Chapter 113. That’s the Experimental Aircraft Association, a national amateur aviation organization that will benefit from proceeds from the event.
Get there starting at 7 a.m. and stay until 11 a.m. to enjoy pancakes and planes with your pop!
Motor City Brew Tours has a great tour scheduled for Father’s Day. Take your dad on Cruise & Brew, a beer tasting boat cruise. You’ll get to enjoy over 25 different local beers and ciders while cruising along the Detroit River on the Detroit Princess Riverboat. Arcadia Ales, Dark Horse Brewing Co., Founders Brewing and Blake’s Hard Cider Co. will all be represented.
A $55 ticket will get you 15 drink samples and as many appetizers as you can eat. The cruise begins at 2:30 p.m. and docks again at 6 p.m.
The Plymouth Family YMCA recognizes that some of you bond with your father through physical fitness, which is why the 36th Annual Plymouth Father’s Day Run is an option. The event includes a 10K, 5K run/walk, 1 mile run/walk, kids’ quarter mile fun run and the MDG Triple (10K, 5K and 1K).
You can also register as a father/daughter or father/son 5K team. Online registration is available and costs $15 to $75, depending on the race. The first event begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning at the corner of Ann Arbor Trail and Union Street in downtown Plymouth.
